New Student Orientation

Steps to help you prepare

Before you get started, make sure you know your 10-digit University ID. You can find it on your admissions notices or look it up using the access management system.

Look up University ID

If you have not yet been admitted to IU South Bend, please contact the Office of Admissions before signing up for advising and registration.

After you create or reactivate your account, login to verify that your IU Email is set up (it may take up to 24 hours).

Create your account

If you have trouble activating your account, contact the UITS Help Desk at (574) 520-5555 or helpdesk@iusb.edu.

There are two options on getting to know more about the campus and registering for classes.

Please note: Students who have earned 30 or more college credits from another institution after high school graduation are advised to choose a virtual appointment.

In-Person Mini-Orientation

  • Mini-orientation offering comprehensive information about various campus resources.
  • Meet with an advisor and register for classes.
  • Obtain your Crimson Card (IU student ID).
  • Excellent opportunity to connect with peers, advisors, success coaches, and student support offices. Ask questions to Financial Aid and other offices. Optional campus tour to familiarize yourself with the campus.
  • Guests allowed, limited to 1 per student.

Virtual Appointment

  • Meet with an advisor individually and register for classes via Zoom.
  • 1-hour appointment.
  • Ideal for students who have previously attended college and have obtained 30 credit hours or more.
  • For an optimal advising/registration experience, you should utilize a desktop, laptop, or tablet during the appointment so you can share your screen with the advisor.
