Prospective students are encouraged to contact AES early in the admissions process with any questions or concerns and for assistance tracking paperwork through the admissions office. Students taking the placement exams may request special testing accommodations. Students requesting this service must provide documentation of their disability prior to receiving assistance.
Request Services and Accommodations
Ensuring the best possible academic experience for each of our students, regardless of their disability, means we provide accommodations, resources and referrals, and programs that meet the unique needs of each student.
Request for Accommodation Letter
Students requesting services will be asked to sign a disclosure form acknowledging they understand DSS’s policy regarding the disclosure of disability information.
Students requesting accommodations and services may also want to review AES’s policies for loaned equipment, audio recording in the classroom, service animals, personal care assistants, and parking.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call DSS at 574-520-4460 or email us at sbdss@iusb.edu.
Accommodating Students with Disabilities in Your Classroom
It is the instructor’s responsibility to ensure that the learning environment is accessible to students who identify themselves as having a disability and request accommodation.
To create an atmosphere where students feel comfortable with coming forward to discuss any accommodations or support services needed, instructors may wish to include the following statement in their syllabi:
If you have a disability and need assistance, arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. Contact the Accessible Educational Services office (Administration Building, Room 170B or call 574-520-4460), as soon as possible to work out the details. Once the AES office has provided you with a letter attesting to your needs for accommodations, bring the letter to me.
