The Office of Communications and Marketing at IU South Bend provides professional photography services as a campus resource. Our goal is to create impactful images that invite both prospective students and the IU South Bend community to engage with the university. This involves working with campus clients to organize marketing photoshoots, covering university events and news stories, and creating portraits for faculty and staff.
Photography
The goal of our marketing photography services is to create thoughtful, personalized, and long-lasting images that can be used to promote schools, departments, and services. These images are intended for use in print publications, on the website, and on various social media platforms. Creating these images will usually involve one or more dedicated photoshoots with volunteer models from your school, department, or service. Please submit a project request form for marketing photography.
The Office of Communications and Marketing regularly covers important university events. If you are planning an event and would like photographs taken, please submit a project request form as soon as possible. The more lead time you give us, the more likely we will have a photographer available. We typically cannot cover events with less than two weeks lead time given. In the case that an in-house photographer is not available, we will put you in touch with a university approved freelance photographer who can cover your event at an hourly rate.
Having a top-notch and up-to-date portrait is important for keeping a clean, consistent look on the website, and is helpful for when you represent the university at conferences, lectures, and other community events. Portraits can be taken in our studio on the first Wednesday of each month. Click here to schedule your portrait. Please submit a project request to schedule a portrait outside of the monthly sessions.
Over the years we have captured thousands of photos around campus. If you are looking for specific images, please contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions
A good rule of thumb is that if you need to ask, then you should probably have a model release signed. The university model release form can be downloaded here.
We require signed release forms from anyone participating in a marketing photoshoot.
When our photographers are taking photographs in public campus spaces where there is no expectation of privacy, we typically do not ask for people to sign a model release form. However, we always try to receive verbal permission to take photos.
If you have any concerns or questions about the model release, please contact us.
That depends on the nature of your project. If you requested event photography and need them soon after the event, please make note of that in your request. Otherwise, expect one to two weeks to receive your edited photos.
Any IU South Bend staff or faculty may request a portrait to be taken. We only take requests from students if they will be representing the university in a special or official capacity
Wear what makes you feel good about yourself! Being happy and comfortable with what you are wearing can help you feel more relaxed during the portrait session and will help to improve the final result. Additionally, try not to wear anything with tight, complicated patterns. Solid colors are always a good choice.
For the sake of consistency and quality control in our image editing we do not provide Raw files to clients. Raw files are an uncompressed and unprocessed image format used by photographers for photo editing. Think of it as a digital version of film that we then need to develop into the final image
Not a problem! Contact us, and we can help you figure it out.
