The 'Showcase days' feed only displays events up to the end of specific date range. However, clicking the button to see LiveWhale filtered results shows all properly tagged results.
Problem #1
Problem #1 Feed
There are no events at this time.
Findings
After simulating the 'Showcase Day' feed it appears:
- the feed builder only places events into the RSS feed within a certain date range. On April 21st, it seems that October 20th is the last date in range.
- clicking through to LiveWhale filtered results does show all upcoming events.
Problem #2
While this feed appears correctly, clicking through to see LiveWhale filtered results on 'Weekday Tour' shows only the first event in a series of repeating events.
Problem #2 feed
There are no events at this time.
Findings
Using the repeating event function when creating events could be problematic. While the feed displays properly, LiveWhale filtered results do not.
General findings and Suggestions
- There is an upper limit of 10 events that go into an RSS feed. We can not display more than 10 events on a web page—it's not likely we'd ever want to do that though.
- In the LiveWhale events manager, removing the 'repeating event' function from a single event affects the whole series. Un-checking 'repeating event' will delete all the events in the series except the one you are editing.
- Edits to the LiveWhale events manager appear to update immediately in the RSS feed.
Suggestions
For the Showcase Day feed, continue tagging these events properly. We can either manually update the list once a semester, or use the dynamic feed knowing the limitation of the date range—as we get closer to an event it will appear in the feed. Properly tagged events show up on the LiveWhale filtered results page.
For a series of events like Weekday Tours, advise the Admissions Office to duplicate and edit events instead of using the 'repeating event' function.
