Understanding the Schedule of Classes

Online All courses – courses that are asynchronous online.  Class modules and materials are posted, usually in Canvas, and the student works through the material at their own pace.  No class meetings, virtual or in person are required.   You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.  

Distance Online Synchronous or Live Video – courses that are all online but you must log on at certain days and times.  Instructor will use an online platform such as Zoom to conduct the class.   This is like an in person class, only the entire class time will be virtual.  You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.

Hybrid Distance – courses that combine some required log in times with times when students will do work on their own.  Videoconferencing will take place, usually through Zoom.  Other times, students will work on modules and assignments at their own pace.  You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.

Hybrid Traditional – courses that combine asynchronous online learning with some in person class meetings or synchronous online learning where you will have to log on at certain days and times.  In person class meetings will be required.  You will need to meet assignment and exam deadlines.

In Person (Face to Face) – courses that meet regularly on campus with some online work to be assigned by the instructor.

Identifying the Class Format

Review the Days and Times column and the Building Location/ Room Number column under each course listing on the Schedule of Classes.

If you have several (at least two of the above) listed under a class, then it is one of two hybrid formats – it may be synchronous and asynchronous with no in person classes or it may be a combination of online (synchronous or asynchronous) and in class required meetings.
