Determining “MY PARENT” and who needs an FSA ID for the FAFSA.
- Are your parents married to each other?
- If yes: go to question 2.
- If no: go to question 3.
- Did your parents file a joint tax return?
- If yes: One parent creates an FSA ID to report both parent’s information.
- If no: Both parents create FSA IDs to report their information.
- Do your parents live together?
- If yes: Both parents create FSA IDs to report their information.
- If no: go to question 4.
- Provide information about the parent who provided more financial support during the last 12 months. If both parents provided an exact equal amount of financial support or if they don't support you financially, provide information for the parent with the greater income or assets. Is this parent remarried?
- If yes: go to question 5.
- If no: This parent creates an FSA ID to report only their information.
- Did your parent and stepparent file a joint tax return?
- If yes: This parent creates FSA ID to report information for themselves and stepparent.
- If no: Parent and stepparent both create FSA IDs to report their information.
