GRADUATION CORDS
Graduating seniors who have applied and have been approved for graduation should have received an email with instructions on how to apply for experiential learning graduation cords on Tuesday, October 4th. The application will be open from October 4th - November 1st. If you did not receive that email, please contact our office within this time frame.
Requirements and Details
Students who are graduating in Fall 2022 are eligible for an Elite Scholar Cord or a Community Engaged Scholar Cord if they have met the following respective requirements:
- Elite Scholar Cord – for students who have completed a 100 hour minimum internship, practicum, or student teaching while being a student at IUSB
- Community Engaged Scholar Cord – for students who have completed a minimum of 50 hours of community service or service learning while being a student at IUSB
These experiential learning and co-curricular activities can be done for academic credit, student organization expectations, or for personal endeavors.
Students must submit a time log showcasing the following details (if applicable):
- The site location
- The name of the agency / company
- The number of hours completed
- Site supervisor’s title, email address, and phone number
- A signature from the site supervisor, EL office, or professor
*Students who falsify information are subject to a hold of their graduation process.*

GRADUATION CORD FAQ’S
Q: What if I am still completing hours for a class after the deadline to submit my hours?
A: You should still complete the application and include the hours that you currently have complete and the anticipated date that your remaining hours will be completed.
Q: I am a student in the School of Education, do I need to complete the application to receive a cord for my student teaching hours?
A: Yes! You will need to complete an application but you will not need to upload your student teaching hours. We will verify your hours with the School of Education.
Q: Can I list service I have done while at another university?
A: No. You can only submit hours you completed as an IUSB student.
Q: Can I still list service to the community if it was during my freshman or sophomore year here at IUSB?
A: Yes, as long as you are able to provide evidence or record of your completion of hours.
Q: Can I include my observation hours for my class?
A: Observation hours do not count towards service to the community.
Q: I cannot find my original paperwork. What is another option to verify my hours?
A: You will need to fill out a new log and have your site supervisor or professor sign it.
