Welcome to Indiana University South Bend! It is my honor to serve as the sixth chancellor of IU South Bend. As a regional campus of Indiana University, students earn an IU degree, right where they live and work, in a small campus environment where they learn from distinguished professors, and all at an affordable price. IU South Bend plays a vital role in our community by providing access to educational opportunities to all. We do this by leveraging our academic, intellectual and facilities resources as well as our human talents. Our graduates are highly sought-after by employers in the region and have gone on to great professional and personal success. Graduates are also part of a powerful IU Alumni Network.
As a student-centered campus, our mission is to empower students to reach their goals so they can advance their lives and the lives of those around them while also making valuable contributions to our community, local organizations and businesses in our region, state, nation and world. We are a campus that is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and are proud to be designated as a minority-serving institution, with over 30% of our students coming from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Our comprehensive approach starts with outstanding academic programs, from the Arts, Sciences and Humanities to professional disciplines such as Business, Education and Health Sciences. We offer financial support for the vast majority of our students and provide other services and programming to help students succeed. This includes our Student Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, Titan Success Center, Tutoring and Career Services Office. We are also proud that our Office of Veteran Student Services was recently designated as a Military Friendly School! We also have several areas of excellence that engage students with faculty out in our community. These are our American Democracy Project, Center for a Sustainable Future, Civil Rights Heritage Center (located on Western Avenue in South Bend), and our Community Engagement Center.
The main IU South Bend campus is located along the banks of the St. Joseph River where students also have an opportunity to live in our River Crossing Campus Housing. These living environments are just one way for students to engage in the campus and surrounding community to extend their learning to the real world. Students may also join faculty in undergraduate research or community-based projects, become part of the honors program, study abroad, work an internship, or play intercollegiate athletics in one of our 6 sports as part of the Chicagoland Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). We also provide the best technology and facilities to support learning, research, discovery and creative endeavors. We even have a Center in Elkhart County that serves residents there.
We are glad you are here and we look forward to playing a role in your educational journey. We are here to help you discover your passions, achieve your dreams and transform your life and the lives of those around you. I look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
