2002–2013
Una Mae Reck was the first woman to serve as Chancellor of Indiana University South Bend. During her 11 year tenure, Reck increased enrollment by over 20 percent and expanded the facilities on campus including the pedestrian bridge, River Crossing student housing and the renovation of the Education and Arts building. Upon her retirement in 2013, she was awarded the IU President's Medal for Excellence and the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor awarded by the governor of Indiana.
Prior to her service as Chancellor of IU South Bend, Reck served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at State University of New York at Fredonia from 1998 to 2002, and Dean of Education at Kutztown University from 1991 to 1998.
Reck earned her Ed.D in Curriculum and Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her other credentials include an M.A. in Reading from Federal City College in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from District of Columbia Teachers College.
