Daniel Cohen was selected as the second Chancellor of IU South Bend after the retirement of Lester Wolfson. Cohen continued expansion of the IU South Bend campus and curriculum, and brought with him a strong background in the field of science.
Before coming to IU South Bend, Cohen was executive vice president for academic affairs and professor of physics at the University of Redlands in California. He also served a variety of positions at State University of New York in Binghamton, including associate dean for academic affairs and acting dean of arts and sciences. He earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Antioch College in Ohio and a doctorate in physics from Stanford University.
Cohen served as Chancellor for IU South for eight years before stepping down in 1995. He returned to teaching as a physics professor at IU South Bend from 1996 until 2001.
