Kory Vitangeli named Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement
Chancellor Elrod is pleased to announce that Kory Vitangeli has been hired to serve as IU South Bend’s Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement. Vitangeli will begin her new role on June 20. She comes to South Bend after serving as Dean of Students and Vice President for Student and Campus Affairs at the University of Indianapolis, and her entire career has been centered around similar work.
Vitangeli received her B.A. in business management from Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio, and went on to earn her M.S. in college student personnel from Western Illinois University. Prior to her time at the University of Indianapolis, she served in student affairs roles at DePauw University and at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Her job description includes an extensive list of responsibilities related to student life – oversight of everything from campus housing and career services to the Titans Feeding Titans food pantry and veteran’s services – but Vitangeli sees it all as part of a bigger picture.
Chancellor Elrod emphasizes the vital necessity of the critical contributions that the Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement brings to the university.
“So many dimensions of the Titan experience involve life beyond the classroom,” Elrod says. “Having Kory on board will help us strengthen the student experience. She brings record of proven leadership, and I am pleased to have her join our leadership team and campus community.”
“I’m most focused on using my role to increase and expand student engagement across campus,” Vitangeli says. “Enhancing student engagement across all the IU campuses is one of President Whitten’s priorities. We want to find the best ways for the student affairs staff to partner with other areas across campus to make sure we are all working together to ensure that students have the support they need to be successful. I am very much looking forward to serving the student-focused and caring community that exists at IU South Bend,” Vitangeli says. “It was clear from the moment I stepped on campus that the entire community cares deeply about the success of students, and I look forward to working with the individuals in the Student Affairs division as well as others across campus.”
